New Beginnings in Kirribilli - and Beyond

At the Château de l’Empéri during the International Chamber Music Festival in Salon-de-Provence — directed by Emmanuel Pahud, Paul Meyer, and Éric Le Sage — captured here during my major research period in July 2025.

Welcoming students to my Kirribilli Flute & Chamber Music Studio at the beautiful Kirribilli Neighbourhood Centre. Here, history and creativity meet — a warm space for musical growth, collaboration, and inspiration.

My Powell flute with my growing series of Motivational Educational Flute Cards (MEFCs) – “The Art of…” collection by Bridget Bolliger. Each card explores an essential concept of flute playing through metaphor, poetry, imagery, and humour — blending pedagogy and creativity in an accessible, inspiring format for flute players of all levels, as well as other instrumentalists, singers, actors, and teachers who work with breath, sound, and expression

After an extraordinary few months in Europe — working alongside inspirational artists and refining ideas for my upcoming book How to Bake Flute with Three Essential Ingredients — I’m delighted to share that I’m bringing that energy home to Sydney in a very tangible way.

This term marks the opening of my new Flute Studio at the Kirribilli Neighbourhood Centre, held every Monday. It’s a welcoming and creative space overlooking the harbour, where students of all ages can explore the joy of flute playing in a supportive environment.

Alongside individual lessons, I’m now enrolling students for chamber music and mixed ensemble coaching — an opportunity to discover the magic of collaboration and develop deeper musical listening. Whether you’re preparing for exams, auditions, or simply wishing to reconnect with your instrument, these sessions are designed to nurture musicianship, confidence, and expression.

The ideas I gathered throughout my AETT research trip — from Basel, Vienna, Nice, Salon-de -Province and Salzburg — continue to shape my teaching philosophy. Breath, support, and airflow remain at the heart of everything I do, forming the foundation of both my book and my Motivational Educational Flute Cards series, which are now being shared internationally.

It feels like a time of renewal: new students, new ideas, and new ways to connect music with community.

Motivational Educational Flute Cards (MEFCs)

I’m thrilled to share that my Motivational Educational Flute Card Series has now grown to twelve cards, each exploring a key concept in flute playing — from The Art of Legato to The Art of Support and beyond.

These illustrated cards make serious flute pedagogy accessible, memorable, and joyful — blending visual learning, humour, and professional insight. Each one reflects the core principles of my forthcoming method book, How to Bake Flute with Three Essential Ingredients — Breath, Support, and Airflow.

I’m deeply touched by the responses the cards are receiving from teachers, students, and musicians around the world. One recent endorsement particularly moved me:

“As an occupational psychologist and an amateur adult flautist, I immediately recognised the exceptional pedagogical value of these cards as they stimulate that part of the brain which is the body's autopilot.
Very much like breathing at night without having to consciously steer that function, these cards directly target that part of the brain, and as such support you in finding your ideal muscular setup in your breathing apparatus and embouchure in a very natural, intuitive and unforced way.
I think that is an extraordinary achievement by Bridget, to have come up with such a tool.
In my opinion, these cards challenge many types of flute instruction out there, in their effectiveness to achieve results.”

Occupational Psychologist & Adult Amateur Flautist

Hearing that these cards are resonating so deeply — helping flautists connect naturally to their breath, body, and musical intuition — is profoundly rewarding. It reminds me why I began this journey: to inspire musicians of all ages to play with awareness, artistry, and joy.
